Background
Green Corps was launched by U.S.
PIRG in 1992. The mission of Green Corps is to train organizers, provide field
support for today’s critical environmental campaigns, and graduate activists
who possess the skills, temperament, and commitment to fight and win tomorrow’s
environmental battles. Since our founding in 1992, Green Corps has partnered
with more than 75 environmental organizations, provided critical field support
to 100 campaigns, and secured dozens of significant victories in conservation,
corporate accountability, and public health. Over the last fifteen years, Green
Corps has graduated 200 emerging environmental leaders from our yearlong
Environmental Leadership Training Program, with eighty-five percent of our
graduates continuing their careers in the environmental and social change
field. Today, our graduates work as
field directors, campaigners, advocates and grassroots organizers with leading
regional and national groups such as National Wildlife Federation, Friends of
the Earth, Natural Resources Defense Council, Defenders of Wildlife, Clean
Water Action, Environment America, Sierra Club and Greenpeace.
