Classroom Training: Learning Tools for Change

Elizabeth Martin-Craig participates in Green Corps Introductory Classroom Training in Boston, MA.

Green Corps presents eight weeks of intensive classroom training conducted by representatives of a wide range of organizations and campaigns.  Past trainers have included David Orr, Dolores Huerta, Lois Gibbs and other well-known leaders as well as behind-the-scenes players who have contributed to the growth and victories of major environmental organizations over the past three decades.

The Green Corps program begins with our four-week Introductory Classroom Training each August in Boston, Mass. Through instruction and practice, our staff and trainers present an overview of the environmental movement; explore different organizing strategies, such as volunteer recruitment, media outreach, and coalition building; and teach a variety of tactical skills, such as petitioning and writing a press release. Four subsequent week-long classroom training sessions held throughout the year teach the organizers additional skills and hone their abilities to plan and implement effective campaigns.

"The earth, which is taking a beating at human hands, is awash with people who express concern about it, but there is a drought of people able to organize to stop the abuse. Green Corps prepares university graduates for the essential commitment to end the drought."
