At Georgetown University, John pursued degrees in Spanish and Latin American Studies, with a focus on studying social movements. During his junior year he traveled to Chile where he saw firsthand the widespread destruction of forests in South and Central America. His research into the role of multinational corporations in the destruction of these forests led him to ForestEthics, a forest preservation organization. He interviewed with Green Corps ’96 alumna Liz Butler, ForestEthics’ organizing director, and was inspired to pursue a career in environmental protection, beginning with Green Corps.
With no prior activist experience, John came to Green Corps to learn the skills needed to protect endangered forests and stop corporate abuses. He is currently working with the 1Sky Campaign in Madison, Wisconsin, to build broad grassroots support for bold action on climate change, such as creating 5 million green jobs and cutting global warming pollution 25 percent by 2020.
