Flora Cardoni leads citizen lobby day on clean energy

PennEnvironment’s deputy director Flora Cardoni (GC 2017) is leading a clean energy transition in Pennsylvania by building a bipartisan movement for change.

Since my time in the program, I’ve worked with PennEnvironment and served as a Lead Organizer, Climate Campaign Director and Field Director. This summer I started my new role as the Deputy Director of PennEnvironment. I’m excited to expand my work and ensure that current and future generations of Pennsylvanians have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, public lands to enjoy and a safe and livable climate powered by 100% renewable energy.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is organizing our annual Climate Action Lobby Day, which is Pennsylvania’s largest environmental advocacy event and trains hundreds of Pennsylvanians to meet with state legislators to advocate for clean energy for a single day each June. With this experience in hand, I now serve on the Governor’s Climate Change Advisory Committee.

Bringing people together to advocate for important, strategic issues is just one part of my job. I also recruit, train and inspire new organizers to join our team so that we can continue fighting climate change and building a greener and cleaner world for years to come.

That’s why I am always always thrilled to hire other Green Corps graduates to work with us at PennEnvironment. Green Corps alumni have a strong foundation in grassroots organizing and they’re ready to hit the ground running. I was very excited to hire Belle Sherwood, from the Green Corps Class of 2024, to join my team this summer. She is poised to make a big impact as our new Climate and Clean Energy Associate.

Green Corps gave me the skills and confidence to dive into this work and make a real difference. I truly believe in the power of this program to train the next generation of environmental leaders. Together, we’re building a movement that can tackle the biggest environmental challenges of our time.
