Organizers recruit 500+ volunteers for 2026 Spring campaigns
Every year, Green Corps organizers step into communities across the country to take on some of the most urgent challenges facing our planet. We just launched our 2026 campaigns with organizers working in Los Angeles, Houston, Baltimore and more! They are building their skills and have already recruited 500+ volunteers to take action while advancing campaigns that protect wildlife, advance clean energy, and conserve our ocean ecosystems.
In Houston, our team is supporting the Arctic Defense Campaign’s efforts to stop oil and gas drilling in one of America’s most critical ecosystems. With upcoming lease sales, Green Corps staff are mobilizing student and community volunteers to call on corporations to stay out of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If corporations believe drilling is a reputational and practical liability, we can protect this irreplaceable wilderness regardless of policy shifts.
In California, our team is joining CALPIRG’s efforts to expand Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), or underwater parks, in state waters. These areas will protect marine ecosystems including kelp forests, rocky reefs, and surfgrass beds that provide essential habitat for species ranging from crabs to migrating gray whales.

In Chicago, we are doubling down on Safer, Cleaner Energy with Illinois PIRG. Following a massive utility rate hike announcement in January, our organizers are launching a rapid-response effort to stop the funding of unnecessary fossil fuel infrastructure that would keep the city hooked on gas for decades. Through city council hearings, grassroots petitions, and spring rallies, we are mobilizing Chicago’s neighborhood associations, environmental organizations, student organizations, and more to support a transition to sustainable, affordable energy.
Across Colorado, the battle for utility accountability is heating up. Working with the Sierra Club, our organizers are recruiting volunteers in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs to push for cleaner energy policies at the state level and calling on utility companies to adhere to their prior commitments to use more clean energy.
In Maryland, we are partnering with Mothers Out Front to launch their Make Polluters Pay campaign. The goal is to build support in local governments for broader policies that would require corporations to pay retroactive fees for their carbon emissions and use those funds to help communities and schools mitigate related impacts of climate change, such as flooding and extreme heat.
Finally, in Massachusetts, our organizers are continuing work with MASSPIRG Students on a diverse range of local conservation efforts. From protecting the bees and whales to advocating for bike lanes in Lowell and sea turtle protection in Dartmouth, we are building student power across the Commonwealth to protect critical biodiversity.
While our organizers are making a tangible impact on these campaigns, they are also honing the essential skills of campaign planning, recruitment, and leadership development. Stay tuned for more updates as these efforts grow this spring!
